Ever since I can remember, most, if not all, of my wishes on stars, dandelions, and birthday candles have been about love. Valentine's Day can easily feel like a giant reminder of what you lack. However, it can also help soften your heart and widen your spirit to the abundance of love already surrounding you. Today, I celebrate my friends and how their platonic devotion has set the standard for any future romantic relationship. I celebrate the times God told me no, because what I wanted was much less than what was waiting for me. You don't need to spend your life seeking out love, just spend your life loving. Love is constant, not something that can only be attained when the conditions are perfect. To be heartbroken is to have loved!!! Life is short, let yourself be destroyed by love! Who cares!!
Love is the most boundless presence in the world if you're able to recognize it. It allows you to find comfort in the little marvels of life, such as the birds always having enough to eat. (Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26 NIV) That is not to say that romantic love lacks any importance. Part of what makes that kind of love so special is the patience and endurance it can take to wait on it. I'm a big fan of doing things scared. Because, while the pursuit of love, or really anything meaningful to you, can be terrifying, sometimes things only take 15 seconds of courage.
We are all collages of generations of people who fell in love. We are all portraits of those we have loved and those who have loved us. What a gracious gift to give yourself, the courage to always love at least once more.
To those living in their epic love story, I wish you a happy ending. & to those of you still wishing on dandelions and stars, remember you have an epic love story still waiting for you.
Happy Valentines Day,
Above all keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8 ESV
